As I read the letter of Paul to the Galatians, I realize that the fruit of the Spirit is what I desire for my life. I see glimpses of the fruit in others: the gentleness of a person caring for the sick, the kindness of one helping another, even a stranger, the joy of sharing and loving and giving…. Sometimes I am privileged to experience also: the love we give to one another, the peace in the middle of life’s storms, and the goodness that flows from strangers, friends and family. Then there are the struggles: where is Patience to be found when I need her? And how intense the contention between living a life of self control and faithfulness against the needs and wants of my self-interests…. What a journey!
